Best Sewing Machine Reviews 2015

If you’re new to the sewing craft or looking for the best sewing machine, I’m here to help. I had always lived by a funny analogy, as God created Man, I create Clothes. I’ve never studied design and by no means am I a fashion protégé but I just adore sewing. Obviously, in this age hand sewing has become almost obsolete so I rely on sewing machines a lot.

Embroidery, quilting or even random patch work, I absolutely love it all. I have tried out various sewing machines to find what would suit me best. With practice and determination, I am now able to do just about anything with a good sewing machine. So, I feel I should help other new seamsters and seamstresses like me find their best sewing machine through my sewing machine reviews.

So… Why Read This Blog?

In this blog, I’ll compile all my honest sewing machine reviews on those sewing machines that I have used or tested. Hopefully, this will give you a better idea of these models of sewing machines do so you’ll not waste your hard earned money purchasing some worthless piece of garbage.

I’ll also include some tips and pointers on how to choose the best sewing machine for you depending on your goals and skills. So welcome to my blog and I hope I can help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

How to Choose the Best Sewing Machine

There is a lot more to sewing than just weaving thread and fabric together. So only when you know what type of sewing you intend to do can you get a sewing machine that suits you. Your skill set is also important. The more skillful and well versed with sewing machines you are, the more complex the sewing machines you’d be able to use.

Type of Sewing Machines

Sewing machines basically fall in three categories. There are regular sewing machines, embroidery sewing machines and quilting sewing machines. There are sewing machines that can do more than one type of sewing but we’ll get to that a little later in the descriptions.

Regular sewing machine

If patchwork and sewing projects are what you intend to use your sewing machine for, look no further. A regular sewing machine would indeed suffice.

Embroidery sewing machine

Monograms and emblems are tough to sew on using regular sewing machines. Do look out for embroidery sewing machines if you just want a machine to customize or spruce up clothes you already have. This is an advance machine so it’ll come at quite a price.

Quilting sewing machine

Large powerhouses are what these machines are. They function like a straight stitch machine which in spite of their massive size, allows your creative to run wild. Some even can be connected to computers so that you can virtually transfer any image or pattern to be quilted on the fabric of your choice.

Type of Work vs Price

sewing machine

Just like everything else on the market today, sewing machines (quilting and embroidery too) come in so many different price ranges and build quality. Aside from the obvious build quality and functional ability, the main thing that sets a sewing machine apart is its ability to handle heavy or thick fabric.

So in layman’s terms, if you plan on sewing using thick and heavy fabrics like denim and velvet you’d need a heavy sewing machine. This is to ensure that enough force is put out so the needle would be able to penetrate the fabric that you are using.

A decent sewing machine that would get the job done using thick fabric would probably be priced around the $250 mark. I’ll include some reviews for each type of budget friendly options and high end options in the review section to help you have a better picture of the best sewing machine to buy.

Any sewing machine would be capable of handling light fabric because it wouldn’t require much force to push the needle through the fabric. Look through my reviews, you’ll surely find one that is to your liking.

I don’t move around much so portability isn’t really an issue but if you’re planning to move your sewing machine a lot, your only option would be to purchase one that is lightweight and has a smaller footprint.

Something to remember is that smaller scaled sewing machines are usually underpowered so make sure you check how much the sewing machine is powered before you purchase it.

cute animalsI love sewing there is no doubt about it. Ever since I started playing with my mom’s old sewing machine, I have felt that I have a passion for sewing, its the art of creation through design.

Sewing isn’t something that can be rushed. Rather than just going full speed and trying to master everything at one go, you should grow and learn at a steady pace. The same thing can be said when it comes to sewing machines.
